7.6 Contribution of higher order turbulent moments to the energy spectrum in an open pine canopy

Vertical profiles of air temperature and wind speed are measured in a young open slash pine canopy at the Florida (Gainesville) Ameriflux experimental site. The air temperature profiles, in and above the canopy, are obtained using aspirated and forced-ventilated thermocouples. Three dimensional wind speed measurements with sonic anemometers are made at one above and four heights below the canopy surface. Moments of wind speed and air temperature up to third order are obtained from these measurements and a spectral analysis is carried out. The relative contribution of these moments to the energy spectrum in and above the canopy is assessed. Particular attention will also be given to the mixing of air in and above the canopy during the transition times and at night.
