Modelling the 1D stable boundary layer with an Ε - l turbulence closure

Wensong Weng, York University, Toronto, ON, Canada; and P. A. Taylor

The PBL model of Weng and Taylor (2003) with E-l turbulence closure is applied to model the 1D stably stratified atmospheric boundary layer. The model has been run for 9 hours with specified initial wind, potential temperature and TKE profiles; and a specified cooling rate applied at the surface.

Different runs are conducted for different cooling rates, geostrophic winds and surface roughness. The results are discussed and compared with other models, large eddy simulations and field data.
