ICS Fire Mapping Tools—A New Standard in Fire Mapping

John Varner, USDA Forest Service , Rocky Mountain Region, Encampment, WY

In 2004, there is a new ICS standard for mapping fires using ArcGIS and storing the data in a Personal GeoDataBase. By storing the data in a PGeoDB, it removes all of the complexity of storing different shapes for every different part of the fire in different folders and then later on trying to be sure all of the data is backed up and stored with the ArcView project. No problems with different data standards since all fields are predefined. This presentation will review the data structure and ArcMap tools designed for the application in order to give people what will be the national (and potentially international) standard beginning in 2004. .
