Modelling of concentration PDF from continuous releases using a Lagrangian PDF approach

Massimo Cassiani, Duke University and Università di Urbino Facoltà di Scienze Ambientali, Durham, NC; and P. Franzese

A Lagrangian stochastic probability density function (PDF) model has been developed to study the full PDF of concentration from point and line sources in the atmosphere. The model reproduces the joint effects of turbulent mixing and molecular diffusivity using Lagrangian stochastic techniques and micromixing models, respectively. An overview of the theoretical foundations of PDF modeling is presented, as well as perspectives and limits of applicability of this approach in atmospheric flow.
