As a contribution to the NOAA/GCIP program, long-term measurements of energy
and carbon fluxes, along with the atmospheric forcing parameters (radiation, wind, precipitation
and temperature) were initiated in August of 1996 in central Illinois, near Champaign. To
evaluate the representativeness of this single location, an addtional micrometeorological eddy
covariance system was deployed at another soybean field 30 kilometer away from mid-July to
early November in 1998. Comparisons between hourly, daily, weekly and total evaporation rates,
NEE (net ecosystem exchange rate) of CO2, and precipitation will be discussed.
