FAA weather processing and display systems will use NEXRAD data to improve the safety and efficiency of air traffic control operations. NEXRAD is the National Weather Service's high-resolution Doppler radar and provides a wide range of weather products. The FAA's Integrated Terminal Weather System (ITWS) uses data from NEXRAD, among other sensors, to provide safety and planning products to terminal aviation system users. The Weather and Radar Processor (WARP) will provide en route meteorologists and controllers with weather data consolidated from several sources, including NEXRAD. In both the terminal and en route environments, NEXRAD data will allow weather personnel to issue more accurate forecasts, advisories, and warnings, and will help create a common situational awareness in the National Airspace System.
