9.4A Snow Depth and New Winter Weather Diagnostics for UFS

In an effort to unify product generation across all UFS applications, new winter weather diagnostics are now available and include surface accumulated freezing rain, graupel/sleet, and snow. A new precipitation ice density option was added to the Noah-MP LSM using an approach from the operational RUC LSM that is based on low-level temperature and a variable snow density. The variable snow density uses information directly from the microphysics scheme. Preliminary results illustrating these new diagnostics will be shown for a winter weather case. Additionally, results will be shown from model runs using the original precipitation ice density formulation and the new variable precipitation ice density.
