Joint Weather Impact System (JWIS) Architecture

.JWIS addresses the process and technology required to provide weather support to the Air Operation Center (AOC) planning and execution process. A weather server provides relevant weather information and impact oriented decision aids through an interactive, dynamic web-based interface that support operational level planning/decision making, automated Air Tasking Order (ATO) process support, mission rehearsal and training.

The vision is for JWIS to be the sole source of weather to all Command and Control (C2) systems in the core C2 architecture. Due to its flexible web-based Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) server architecture, it maintains interoperability with virtually any joint/coalition systems (or future iterations) through standard (Application Programming Interface) APIs for application level instant access to relevant weather parameters and impacts or web-based access to same.

The JWIS architecture enhances the decision making process by providing access to weather effects at all stages and all levels of the planning process. The following illustrates how the different tactical decision aids will enhance the decision making process during the different stages of the planning process
