Developing Digital Library Resources Using UCAR's Geoscience Resource Discovery System (GRDS)

Mary R. Marlino, UCAR, Boulder, CO; and K. Ginger and B. Domenico

UCAR's Program for the Advancement of Geoscience Education (PAGE) has created a prototype Geoscience Resource Discovery System (GRDS). There are two main objectives of the project. One is to establish a prototype index/catalog/search engine system that gives users a central site for searching and contributing geosciences materials that may reside at any of the participating institutions as well as at the central site. The second goal is to develop tables of contents for the different geoscience disciplines. These tables of content provide quick access to materials that can be used in the classroom without having to conduct one's own search. This GRDS project is part of a developing Digital Geoscience Library effort at PAGE. This project is a joint effort by PAGE and Unidata to provide convenient information access tools and geoscience resources for the communities they serve.
