Thomas F. Ross, NOAA/NESDIS/NCDC, Asheville, NC; and C. S. Godfrey and R. R. Heim

The National Climatic Data Center's (NCDC) Climate Monitoring Group produces operational as well as special-event reports on climate and weather around the globe. These NCDC reports address the climate in historical perspective and are available via the NCDC web site. Highlights include: synopses of global monthly and annual mean temperatures and precipitation and their departures from the long term mean; global and US extreme events; and U.S. and global regional analyses using traditional surface data as well as blended surface and satellite data products. This paper will describe the various products of the Climate Monitoring Group and highlight some applications useful to the earth science educator and student.
