Advanced information technologies being developed through several presidential initiatives promise to revolutionize the development and delivery of weather forecasts and warnings. Faster computers, better networking, and smart interfaces, may then be combined to get the right information to the right person at the right time. Advanced networks are expected to provide a host of valuable services including dramatically increased bandwidths, one to many data broadcasts, and assured delivery among others. Together these advances will make possible aggregating full-volume doppler data from the entire national grid and rapid dissemination of the resulting detailed model results to the user community. High-speed wireless technologies and new protocols will enable new capabilities not envisioned today.
