The two objectives of this research are: (1) to determine how realistically the NCAR Climate System Model (CSM) simulates Northern Hemisphere storm tracks, and (2) to analyze changes in Northern Hemisphere storm tracks between a 10-year fixed CO2 control run and a 10-year doubled CO2 run from the NCAR CSM. Global fields of wind, geopotential height, vorticity, and precipitation are used to characterize location, seasonality, frequency, and intensity of storm tracks across the Northern Hemisphere. Differences between the doubled CO2 and control runs are used to assess the impact of climate change on storm track variability.
