Significant and disproportionate changes in heavy precipitation over many regions of the world raise the question: why is this occurring in recent decades? An intensification of convection processes (as shown by our analyses of convective cloudiness over the United States and Russia) and water vapor increases in the lower troposphere may be among the causes of these changes.
