WOMEN'S TRENDS: The changing status of women in the profession/society

During 1998, the Board on Women and Minorities of the American Meteorological Society conducted a survey of its membership on various issues of concern including on the status of women in the profession and in the Society. Survey results on this issue will be presented, with emphasis on the current status of female meteorologists and changes from past surveys of the membership. Differences in the status of women in various meteorological professions such as university professors and in broadcast meteorology will be discussed, and anecdotes from the "comments" section of the survey will be presented.
