The composition of students in the educational pipeline are examined with respect to the number of women and minorities enrolled in colleges and universities that offer degree programs in atmospheric, oceanographic and hydrologic sciences. Data, from recent AMS surveys of its members and from information supplied by colleges and universities, are examined to see if some change has taken place, especially with respect to women and minorities in the science. Barriers to a more diverse composition in the profession are discussed.
