Synergistic Expansion: Maury Project and Atmospheric Resource Agents Join Forces

Faye McCollum, AMS/AERA, Muscogee County Schools, Columbus, GA

Maury Oceanographic Agents and Atmospheric Resource Agents join forces to provide an exciting new program for precollege teachers. This distance-learning, Internet-delivered course features the interactions and interdependence of water in the earth's system. The project, entitled "Water in the Earth's System" (WES), combines the expertise of both Maurys and A.E.R.A's as they form Learning Implementation Teams (LIT's) throughout the United States.

Success of the Maury and Atmospheric Education projects in the past has been directly related to the training of its participants. The purpose of this presentation is to feature highlights of the Summer 2000 training session in Annapolis, Maryland. A major focus of the program will include interactions and activities involving scientists such as hydrologists, geologists, oceanographers and meteorologists who serve as mentors to LIT teams and K-12 teacher participants in their respective locations.
