Final Update on AWIPS Commissioning/Legacy System Decommissioning

Commissioning of the Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) required its interfacing with other National Weather Service system and full operational mode. Previous AMS papers have discussed the process and details for commissioning AWIPS. The first AWIPS were commissioned in January 2000 and continued throughout the year. This paper provides the results from this effort and the experiences encountered throughout the period commissionings took place. In addition a description of how well the process worked according to the plan established last year, and its relationship to the decommissioning of legacy weather systems replaced by AWIPS will also be discussed.
