Use of the AWIPS Commissioning Homepage as a Productivity Tool
Joseph Facundo, NOAA/NWS, Silver Spring, MD
Commissioning of the Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) required an enormous amount of coordination with National Weather Service regional and field sites. Previous AMS papers have discussed the process and details for commissioning AWIPS. The first AWIPS were commissioned in January 2000 and continued throughout the year. This paper provides an insight into how the AWIPS commissioning homepage was utilized to meet a host of requirements for imparting information. For example, various metrics and all necessary documentation were both critical before an AWIPS could be commissioned. In addition, many wished to know about the process and a status of how many were commissioned and this homepage provided this information. One key result was the reduction of staff effort to coordinate commissioning-related activities.
