The Common Land Model (CLM) project is a multi-institution
multi-disciplinary effort to develop a land-surface model
for use in climate studies. It brings together a broader
range of expertise than can be accomplished within any one
research group. The CLM version 0 (including comprehensive
external and online documentations) will be released to the
community in 2000.
In addition to the extensive beta testing of CLM (including point observations, regional, continental, and global data, and data assimilation), we have coupled it with the NCAR climate model (CCM3). As part of this coupling, we have developed a comprehensive land dataset from remote sensing and field survey.
At the Symposium, we will discuss the land model (CLM), the comprehensive land data, and how they improve the simulations of land surface hydrology and energy balance at global and regional scales.
