There are numerous data sources providing global precipitation information. However, due to differences in horizontal resolution as well as spatial and temporal sampling, these datasets differ in their accuracy of rainfall measurements over the tropics. It has been previously shown that these datasets differ in estimating rainfall over this region. In this study we will be comparing the interannual variations in rainfall estimates for 1998 and 1999 over West Africa from TRMM PR, TRMM Merged, CMAP, SSM/I and GPCP data.
