Earth2Class: bringing together teachers, scientists, and science

Michael J. Passow, White Plains Middle School and Columbia Univ., White Plains, NY; and C. Assumpcao, F. Baggio, and K. Corder

"EARTH2CLASS" is a unique professional development program that brings classroom teachers and research scientists together to expand content knowledge and educational technology applications. Descriptions of the first few years of "E2C" were presented at the 10th Symposium on Education. During the 2000 - 2001, the Earth2Class team expanded this program in a variety of ways that will be shown in this poster display.

An expanded series of Workshops featuring research scientists were held at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University. Included among new themes in this year's series was "Water Resources," which allowed presentation of "Water in the Earth System" online and print resources to be utilized by participants.

Tools created to support on-going learning and additional teacher-training opportunities will be described. These include the supporting web site, www.earth2class.org, and a graduate education course, "Facilitating State Standards: Earth Science," at St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill NY.
