Atmospheric attenuation, a review

Atmospheric attenuation is a rate at which atmospheric gasses absorb energy from a beam, effectively reducing the beam’s energy. The correction for this attenuation is the addition of the product of the atmospheric attenuation coefficient and the range. The atmospheric attenuation coefficient is a factor based upon the transmission frequency of the radar. This paper reviews the theory surrounding the atmospheric attenuation and develops a functional relation for determining the atmospheric attenuation coefficient.
