Nutrient Fractionation in South Florida and implications for coastal waters and ecosystem restoration
Larry E. Brand, University of Miami, RSMAS, Miami, FL
As a result of a diversity of geochemical substrates and various biogeochemical processes in South Florida, some ecosystems are phosphorus limited and others are nitrogen limited. Knowledge of this variation is important for accurately predicting the ecological effects of agricultural and urban runoff in coastal ecosystems. This is becoming increasingly important as the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan begins to alter the hydrology of South Florida
