Monitoring Changes in the Wind
After thirty years of monitoring for the six criteria pollutants for which the EPA has defined health standards, the monitoring community is responding to requests for monitoring data on many pollutants outside their expertise. There are initiatives to understand old issues that have yet to be solved like ozone nonattainment areas and monitoring that is new enough to be considered research for applications such as regional haze and toxics. The monitoring community is finding the appetite of the public for real-time data almost insatiable as well. There are challenges to generate new data and to provide it to users, faster than ever before
