Fischer-Porter rain gauge upgrade

Eric Tseo, Coastal Environmental Systems, Seattle, WA

Coastal Environmental Systems has designed, manufactured, and environmentally tested a sensor and datalogger/display/real-time data system to upgrade the performance of the Fischer-Porter/Belfort precipitation gauge. The system is based on Coastal’s ZENO® 3200 data acquisition system and contains a license-free spread spectrum wireless radio, telephone modem, weatherproof keypad, daylight visible display, and a removable non-volatile memory device.

Advantages of the Coastal Environmental system include:

Requires no modifications to existing Fischer-Porter weighing mechanism and structure. Established technology and datalogger replaces isoelastic weighing spring and paper punch mechanism. Built in connections for thermistor and stream level encoder, Wireless remote unit allows indoor viewing of weather data in real time. Telephone dialup for retrieval of data and command and diagnostics of system. Automated telephone data upload. 375 day datalogger memory capacity.

The overall system is very flexible and expandable for individual applications
