Paula T. McCaslin, NOAA/ERL/FSL, Boulder, CO; and P. A. McDonald, E. J. Szoke, and E. R. Thaler
D3D (Display in 3 Dimensions) is a collection of visualization tools based on the University of Wisconsin's Vis5D software and modified by the NOAA Forecast System Laboratory (FSL) to be compatible with the standard National Weather Service (NWS) Advanced Weather Information Processing System (AWIPS).

With the recent AWIPS hardware upgrade to a PC/Linux platform and its associated Linux-based configuration management system, a formal approach is taken to installing nonstandard release software. This paper will look at the process of adding new software to an NWS WFO computer and will spell out the steps required to accomplish this.
