STATISTICS OF HIGHLY RESOLVED DEEP TROPICAL CONVECTION

Adrian M. Tompkins, Max Planck Inst. for Meteorology,, Germany

Using a cloud resolving model of deep convection, statistics of
deep tropical convection, such as cloud size distributions and
in-cloud buoyancies will be analysed, using a horizontal resolution better than 400m for cases of both enhanced and suppressed convection.

In particular we will examine the effect of large-scale forcing on
in-cloud buoyancy, and compare this to the standard calculations of Convective Available Potential Energy (CAPE) made from large-scale mean profiles
