A comparison of wind profiles derived from the S-band Doppler radar located at Kwajalein, Republic of the Marshall Islands versus rawinsonde data from the same location during the passage of Typhoon Paka (8-12 December 1992) will be presented.
The radar was located beneath the northern half of Typhoon Paka as it developed and underwent several periods of intensification which included the development of an inner eye wall. Analysis of the vertical wind profiles will be presented to display how this product can be successfully implemented as a real-time vertical profiler of the winds when dual-Doppler is not an option, between rawinsonde deployments, or when rawinsonde data are unavailable
