.This paper is aimed at comparing the results of the theorical study of the coast for water potential with the experimental results of collections made in the Paposo National Reserve, located south of the city of Antofagasta, Chile (lat 25º53' S, long 71º14' W). The analysis of thermodinamic fog behavior (coast stratocumulus) is based on historic experimental observation of meteorological parameters in order to estimate its water content, an important factor in water collection. The quality of the water collected and the anthropogenic influence of mining activity on it are studied. Also, the metallic pollution impact on vegetation is considered. Various applications and their future protection in the area are analysed. A climatic study of the zone which shows characteristics different from a coast desert is included
