The Federal Aviation Administration is modernizing the National Airspace System through the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen). To help steer NextGen, several senior executive-level boards collaborate on issues involving numerous organizations. One of these boards, the NextGen Executive Board (NEB), consists of multiple government partner agencies. Because weather is responsible for the highest percentage of flight delays, the NEB commissioned a sub-board, the NextGen Executive Weather Panel (NEWP), to resolve interagency weather issues. This panel consists of senior executives from the major meteorological services who are intimately involved in NextGen. The NEWP meets three times per year. It focuses on leveraging each other’s research and development efforts to further NextGen, and resolving issues impeding NextGen implementation and any high-level policy issues.
