The development of the NWM represents a significant opportunity to improve both the anticipation of flooding events and communication of these risks to both the public and emergency managers. However, the performance of the NWM has not yet been explored in the complex environment of Arctic and sub-Arctic climates. In this presentation, characteristics of warm precipitation events will be explored in Alaska, and preliminary results will be provided on the performance of the WRF-Hydro model during these higher impact rainfall events.
