Thursday, 10 January 2019: 12:00 AM
North 231C (Phoenix Convention Center - West and North Buildings)
Bill Ward, NWS, Honolulu, HI; and J. Gerth and M. Goldberg

The Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) funds the development of projects to create and provide training, but some tasks are not coordinated with each other or other related satellite training programs within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), such as National Weather Service (NWS) efforts. The new JPSS training initiative is designed to capture the greatest number of potential users and uses for low-earth orbiting satellites based on existing activities. The vision of the initiative is to imbue the global earth sciences community with knowledge of JPSS applications for training, operations, and science. This presentation will cover the charter and objectives for the initiative and discuss how interested parties can participate or contribute, as well as define the criterion for success. Some examples of ongoing training efforts under the initiative will also be provided.
