Extreme events can have a significant impact on both the supply and demand of energy. While natural catastrophes like wildfires and hurricanes present a large risk to physical energy assets, extreme temperature events put a strain on the grid’s ability to meet demand. As we move toward a climate where extreme events are expected to be more common, it becomes increasingly important to understand how to manage risks associated with extreme events. In this session, panelists from the energy and reinsurance sectors will discuss how we currently manage extreme event risk from grid resiliency, financial, and utility planning perspectives, and how we might address that risk in the future.
