On icosahedral grids, vector field reconstruction (interpolation), such as velocity for Arakawa A-grid, C-grid and D-grid, is important for the finite-volume numerical accuracy and stability in solving dynamics equations, such as shallow-water model. We will summarize the available schemes used in models such as NICAM and MPAS, etc. We will provide analysis on the numerical accuracy of these reconstruction schemes, and explore applicability of other methods, such as local polynomial fitting, global solve, and constrained global optimizations.
