Using GLM in the Aviation Weather Center

The Aviation Weather Center (AWC) has been using gridded data from the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM) for over a year. With the addition of GOES-17 in the west, forecasters can now use the data to support other Meteorological Watch Offices (MWOs) with Impact-based Decision Support Services (IDSS). This presentation will demonstrate how the GLM is used to enhance both domestic and international forecast and warning operations at the AWC along with a continued evaluation of its performance.
