Integrating social-ecological-economic systems in a complex urban setting is very challenging. The goal of any city is to construct self-sustaining infrastructures and practices ultimately creating a healthy inhabiting environment for humans. But linking information to knowledge to society in the correct manner is difficult.

Auburn is a medium sized university town in the southern plains which will be the test bed for this mobile app. The mobile app will be an interactive platform, where Auburn residents can search and learn about various sustainability components which would improve living conditions. It will be a one stop app for all to understand what it takes to be sustainable and how one can help to understand the nuances of anthropogenic impacts on environment.

The mobile app will be based on the 17 sustainability development goals (SDGs). The SDGs address the global challenges such as related to poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, prosperity, and peace and justice. Out of these 17 SDGs, 7 prioritized SDGs will be included in the App based on the criteria important and relevant to Alabama and Auburn. Each of the 7 SDGs will contain several indicators tailored to Auburn city and surrounding area. Indicators will include real time as well as informational criteria for sustainable developments; for example, fresh food sources, solar power potential, bicycle routes, what to do when a heat wave hits the city etc. This smart city app is a tool to connect knowledge and real time information to foster healthy and sustainable living in society, which is the theme of the Centennial AMS 2020 meeting.
