Weather forecasting skill has improved vastly in the last 50 years, but society has not fully seen the benefit of this improved skill because decision makers frequently have not fully thought through how to use the information optimally. I will discuss my thoughts on how leveraging emerging science and technology, combined with an increased emphasis on the human role of working with planners to ensure optimal decisions are made in regards to weather risks, can provide substantial improvements to the safety and prosperity of our society.
