In this study a comparison will be made between the simulated radiances from the Community Radiative Transfer Model (CRTM) and observed radiances from the AIRS and TRMM satellite sensors. This will be done with numerical simulations of tropical cyclone cases (e.g., Hurricane Dennis, Typhoon Jangmi) using output from the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model. The ability of the CRTM simulated radiances to represent observed radiances near tropical cyclones will be evaluated. The potential for direct assimilation of satellite radiances for improving hurricane forecasts will be discussed.
