Interannual variations in tropical cyclone tracks
There is widespread concern that since 1995 we have been in a period of greater North Atlantic hurricane activity. Here we provide new insight into the debate about the causes of this increased activity by examining hurricane tracks. Results suggest that in order to understand all the mechanisms associated with hurricane frequency changes it is important to consider factors that influence their paths. In this regard, the North Atlantic Oscillation is a plausible candidate.
