Monday, 31 March 2014: 5:15 PM
Garden Ballroom (Town and Country Resort )
Mark P. Guishard, Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences, St. George's, Bermuda

The Risk Prediction Initiative (RPI) was started in 1994, as a collaboration between the international business community based in Bermuda, and the academic team at the Bermuda Biological Station for Research, Inc. (now the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences - BIOS). Over the last twenty years, RPI has facilitated research into areas of relevance to the business decision-making process, and fostered a working relationship between academia and the re/insurance industry. Specifically, collaborative research on paleotempestology, extratropical transition, climate change/tropical cyclone feedbacks and historical TC catalogues have had broad societal impacts even beyond the context of each of the project partners. Concepts for new research will be discussed, with a view to the next 20 years of RPI.
