Learn about National Weather Service (NWS) use of Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) and how you can use it to distribute and integrate alert information with consumer electronics, decision support systems, and mobile devices.
CAP is an XML-based information standard used to facilitate emergency information sharing and data exchange across local, state, tribal, national and non-governmental organizations of different professions that provide emergency response and management services.
You'll learn how NWS CAP alerts will help feed FEMA's Integrated Public Alerts and Warning System (IPAWS) and the Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS). CMAS will send alerts to cell phones starting in 2012.
Information will also be provided on the NWS' new collaborative venue that encourages wide participation in the evolution and use of NWS CAP alerts.
