Broadcast meteorologists are told by consultants and news managers that viewers don't care why weather changes, they only want to know what the weather will be like. Assuming that's true, are we partially to blame? Have we made the why too common, uninteresting and boring by showing too many maps of animated weather data that mean nothing to the average person? Getting viewers to become interested in the why requires broadcast meteorologists to think differently, to create content that surprises, informs and even entertains. I'll demonstrate several methods of explaining why and how the weather changes using techniques that move beyond the green wall, including new augmented reality weather software.
