Every year freezing rain events produce major damages in the U.S. which impact various weather sensitive user groups. A long-term (1930-2000) database of freezing rain events and related weather conditions has been developed. This database contains information such as timing of occurrences and average duration of events including average and maximum temperature, wind and precipitation amounts recorded during these events. The spatial distribution of freezing rain events will be shown and regional differences will be discussed.
