PROPOSED ONLINE WEATHER STUDIES AT ALABAMA A&M UNIVERSITY AND THE USE OF NEAR REAL TIME DATA FROM THE ALABAMA MESONET (ALMNET) FOR WEATHER STUDIES
Hall 4AB
Alabama A&M University (AAMU) has an excellent record of training underrepresented undergraduate and graduate students in sciences. The primary focus of this institution is concentrated in environmental science, remote sensing, and GIS disciplines. For example, the environmental science program focuses on air pollution, soil and water pollution, toxic and hazardous wastes, and techniques in environmental analysis. The primary focus of our training and research for students who are coming to receive undergraduate and graduate degrees has been remote sensing and GIS studies focusing on water quality, watershed level studies, and remote sensing of soil moisture. The Department of Plant and Soil Science has been offering a course entitled “Earth Science” in the past. This course will be modified to incorporate and introduce Online Weather Studies to students across different disciplines. The poster will describe the plan that we are trying to implement to introduce this course to interested individuals within the School of Agriculture and Environmental Science and other Universities in the surrounding area.
