Engineers at the WSR-88D Radar Operations Center (ROC) are collaborating with Scientists at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) to implement the Clutter Mitigation Decision (CMD) system into the WSR-88D. The CMD algorithm developed at NCAR will be the first attempt at automating the clutter filtering system in the WSR-88D. Using recorded digitized signals of weather events from operational and test radars, ROC engineers will evaluate the CMD algorithm performance on an offline RDA processor.

This paper presents preliminary results on Clutter Mitigation Decision system performance in the WSR-88D processing environment under different environmental conditions.
