The Hurricane Forecast Improvement Program (HFIP) is well underway and while results are beginning to show promise toward reaching its goals by 2014, there are challenges suggested by recent results. In this presentation we will briefly outline the program and its goals then report on recent significant Program accomplishments including results from high resolution global and regional ensembles, and data assimilation experiments. These results have suggested major issues and challenges that must be addressed by the program. Finally we will outline out plans for HFIP development for the next 5 years.
