Some Stochastic Physical schemes, similar to the Stochastic Perturbed Parameterized Tendency (SPPT) Scheme employed at ECMWF ensemble system, are tested with NCEP's operational Global Ensemble Forecast System (GEFS). The primary goal in the beginning stage of the study is to demonstrate the impact of various schemes on the forecast from the current operational Global Forecast System (GFS) model and the operational GEFS ensemble methodologies. The interaction of these schemes with the previously implemented Stochastic Total Tendency Perturbation (STTP) scheme will be evaluated. In this talk, the results from these preliminary tests will be presented and compared, and candidates for further study and operational implementation will be proposed.
