Professor Krishnamurti (Krish) has had a significant influence on the National Hurricane Center (NHC) over the years. A number of his graduate students, including several Ph.D.s, were employed at the NHC. They brought concepts, theories, and techniques learned under Krish's tutelage into the realm of operational tropical weather forecasting. Krish has made a major contribution to the NHC's numerical model guidance for tropical cyclone prediction with the Florida State University Superensemble. Additionally, several of Krish's students have been employed at the National Weather Service's Environmental Modeling Center, where they have made major improvements in tropical weather prediction from the Global Forecast System (GFS). These advancements have made the GFS one of the NHC's most reliable guidance models for its operations. This presentation will give more details on Krish's notable contributions to the NHC's mission.
