Atmospheric scientists have an almost innate appreciation for data. After all, observational data of meteorological events are ephemeral … non-replicable in the lab. Such data are fundamental to the development of predictive models and the advancement of our understanding of atmospheres. Despite appreciating the value of data, good data management practices are not as commonplace as we might wish and there are increasing calls for improved data management practices by researchers. Librarians have expertise in preservation and archival principles that they can bring to bear to aid researchers in meeting these new expectations. Whether providing a data repository service or instruction in data management principles, librarians can provide valuable support towards fulfilling the demand for high quality management of research data.
