The VIIRS sensor on the Suomi NPP satellite yields more than two terabytes of data every day. While Python is well suited to processing and visualizing the products, the sheer volume of data requires a compute cluster and a disciplined approach to I/O, image creation, and debugging. This presentation will cover some of the challenges involved in creating gigapixel images and full-globe animations of VIIRS data.
